WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE

Action For Humanity supports the most vulnerable population through provision of clean and safe drinking water and sanitation. We ensure community mobilisation and awareness on basic hygiene and sanitation. We apply a holistic approach to our humanitarian and development projects by focusing on hygiene awareness in communities and work through key stakeholders in order to maximise impact.

  • In 2019 our WASH projects reached 220,220 beneficiaries
  • When the world was hit by the devastating effects of COVID19, we distributed hygiene kits and delivered awareness training to 2,225 beneficiaries.
SDG 6 Target 1:
Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all
SDG 6 Target 2:
SDG 6 Target 2:
Achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations

EDUCATION

Many children miss out on education due to lack of access, unaffordability, displacement, and emergencies. Children are more likely to be trapped in the vicious cycles of poverty, poor health, forced labour, gender discrimination and early marriage. Our education programmes are fully inclusive and non-discriminatory to allow children of all ages, genders, abilities etc to receive a good education.

  • In 2019, we benefitted 127,349 children through our 164 schools in Syria.
  • Since then we have taken over the management of even more bringing the total number to 300 schools

SDG 4 Target 1:
Ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and Goal-4 effective learning outcomes
SDG 4 Target 5:
Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations

FOOD SECURITY AND LIVELIHOODS

We tackle starvation, food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty through the provision of food and the opportunities and resources needed for people to generate income for themselves and their family. We implement food security and nutrition projects through a holistic approach in sure to deliver sustainable solutions.

  • During Ramadan 2020, Action For Humanity distributed 362 food baskets to some of the most vulnerable families in Yemen helping over 1,810 people.
  • In 2019, 172,830 people benefitted from projects across Syria and the neighbouring countries.

SDG 2 Target 1:
End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round
SDG 2 Target 4:
Ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality

CLIMATE CHANGE

Action for Humanity gives priority to implement Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) projects to help communities to strengthen their adaptive capacity to the increasing number of disasters being created and heightened by climate change. We focus on renewable energy and ensure all our projects are adaptive to the impacts of climate change and do not place increased pressure on the environment.

SDG 13 Target 1:
Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
SDG 13 Target 3:
Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning

RESEARCH, POLICY AND ADVOCACY

In addition to our humanitarian and development work across the world, Action For Humanity key focus area is to advocate for the well-being of most vulnerable people affected by conflict and natural disasters. For Syrian people, Action For Humanity commits to take advocacy measure to improve the collective response for the most vulnerable people on earth.

SDG 16 Target 1:
Significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere
SDG 16 Target 6:
Develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels

HEALTH AND NUTRITION

Whether it’s emergency care, maternity, paediatrics, or regular medical care for chronic illnesses, vaccinations and mental health support, we ensure people get the life-saving support they need. We ensure affected communities have access to appropriate healthcare and strive to mitigate the impact of poverty on health. We also provide regular medical care for chronic illnesses, vaccinations and mental health support. This is crucial to not only driving positive health outcomes but to reducing extreme poverty.

  • In 2019 alone, we helped 379,423 people from our far-reaching health projects.
  • 6,771 benefitted from our mobile clinics which travelled to some of the hardest to reach areas of Syria.
  • In Bangladesh, 45,000 Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazaar received healthcare from our static healthcare centre.

SDG 3 Target 3:
By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.
SDG 3 Target 4:
By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.

SHELTER AND CAMP COORDINATION

During times of disaster and conflict, a common factor is the displacement, people fleeing their homes or having their homes damaged or destroyed. We believe every person has the right to a safe and secure home. To this end, we endure displaced people have emergency shelter and basic, life-saving and life-sustaining provisions.

  • In Syria, in 2019, we supported 224,715 beneficiaries through various shelter projects. During the winter seasons we rehabilitated camps and restored drainage systems to protect camps against heavy rainfall.
  • In Bangladesh, we have provided quality shelters as part of Global Reliefs Eco Village for vulnerable Rohingya refugees for 893 people in Kutupalong, Cox’s Bazar district.

CROSS-CUTTING THEMES

GENDER

Gender mainstreaming is one of the most crucial considerations in which we ensure that our projects account for the unique vulnerabilities faced by people of all genders. Within our projects we ensure to treat everyone as equal as we know this is the first step to reducing poverty levels for all and achieving our vision.

ENVIRONMENT

At Action for Humanity we understand the continuing pressures everyone is putting on the world and the environment and how this can cause exacerbate conditions for already vulnerable communities. We work to ensure all our projects are sustainable and work with impacted and vulnerable communities who are most vulnerable to these increased environmental pressures.

SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION

The mainstreaming of safeguarding and protection is crucial to ensure no one is exposed to further harm and the affected populations are supported without discrimination. This includes both child protection and protection from gender-based violence.

LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND

Following the global commitment of ‘leave no one behind’, we endeavour for inclusion of the most marginalised and vulnerable people in all our programmatic interventions.
