Purpose of Position

As a Community Engagement Specialist at AFH Canada, you'll be a driving force for transformation, mobilizing Canadians to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals around the world. Our goal is to diversify and expand our revenue streams through innovative fundraising initiatives, while building and nurturing relationships with donors, volunteers, and community supporters to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

Key Interfaces

  • Develop and optimize community fundraising and volunteer initiatives 

  • Oversee key external relationships, ensuring consistent engagement and support AFHC's initiatives.  

  • Serve as the point of contact and representative of AFHC with regional volunteer teams

 

Responsibilities 

Event Planning and Execution

  • Lead regional volunteer teams in managing events locally or event participation in consultation with line manager. 

  • Lead the planning and execution of regional, and local fundraising events, ensuring alignment with AFH’s mission and objectives. 

  • Represent the organization at AFHC and non-AFHC events 

  • Ensure that appropriate materials and equipment are available for events 

  • Loading, delivering and returning materials and equipment to and from functions 

  • Always maintaining supplies of fundraising/promotional materials 

  • Provide progress updates on event planning to the team and ensure all supporting materials and tools are ready. 


Challenges Management

  • Develop and execute a Challenges plan, managing the administrative, logistical, and operational elements of all challenges.  

  • Plan and prepare all AFH challenges by ensuring completion and approval of required documentation (budgets, planning forms, risk assessments, etc.) and by developing and delivering participant resources and materials for smooth and successful delivery. 

  • Ensure challenges are focused on income generation as well as positive brand exposure.  

  • Communicate performance and provide regular updates to Line Manager 

  • Utilize all regional and personal social media platforms to promote AFHC messaging, campaigns, activities and appeals. 

  • Explore and develop new relationships and partnerships with the goal of widening the community outreach and increasing the number of new donors to AFHC.  

  • Manage the stakeholder relationships by holding regular meetings, providing feedback on donations and exploring what AFHC can offer them 

  • Manage and oversee mosque and community relations: organizing Jummah or Taraweeh collections for campaigns, distribute material for specific campaigns at mosques and other gatherings (Ramadan, Qurbani, Emergencies), and set up fundraisers at mosques and in the community to raise funds and awareness 

  • Provide fundraising support to stakeholders working with AFHC 

  • Respond to fundraising and other enquiries in relation to regional activities 


Volunteers and Networking

  • Build a regional volunteer team by recruiting, training and managing members 

  • Plan strategic activities in collaboration with the Team Leads to engage and motivate volunteers. 

  • Lead the volunteers’ team in planning and executing grass roots community events. 

  • Lead volunteer appreciation events and ensure ongoing recognition of their contributions. 

  • Lead regional volunteer team in executing larger AFHC events, challenges and tours 

  • Assist with any fundraising activities taking place in the region 

  • Lead volunteer team to promote and obtain attendance at or with all AFHC fundraising events and initiatives 

  • Attend and network at local and AFHC events to build relationships, recruit new volunteers. 

  • Collaborate with team leads to plan and execute events and volunteer opportunities outside the GTA as needed

 

Job Requirements

Education

  • Degree in a related field, such as International Development 


Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience of a working in a Donor Care Role, preferrable within the charity sector  

  • Proven experience in establishing and managing relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders and partners. 

  • Experience of organizing and supervising events 

  • Experience of recruiting, managing and developing volunteers. 

  • Experience of achieving fundraising targets and successfully managing community relations.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the local region and community 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and manage volunteers 

  • Excellent communication skills Excellent presentation skills 

  • Strong motivation and empathy towards the aims and objectives of the organization 

  • Numerical skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and pay attention to detail 

  • Ability to represent AFHC in a wide range of situations 

  • IT literate with ability to use Google Suite, databases and project management tools to deliver on KPIs 

  • Strong organizational skills i.e. ability to prioritize and plan work, set and achieve deadlines, establish and maintain monitoring systems etc


Languages️

  • Strong written and spoken English (essential) 

  • Proficiency in French (desirable) 

  • Proficiency in Arabic (desirable)
