Restoring Water, Farmland, and Livelihoods in Gaza
For generations, agriculture has provided food and income for Palestinian families in Gaza. The destruction of farmland and irrigation infrastructure has left farmers struggling to cultivate their land. Action For Humanity is helping restore the water supplies they need to grow again.
Years of Israeli bombardment and military operations have devastated agricultural land and damaged essential infrastructure. Farmers have lost equipment and access to the resources their livelihoods depend on.
Even where land remains suitable for cultivation, a damaged well or inadequate pump can prevent farmers from using it. Without reliable irrigation, crops cannot grow and families lose a vital source of income.
Rehabilitating agricultural wells can help bring farmland back into use, supporting farming households while contributing to local food production.
Helping Farmers Return to Cultivation
Through our water and agricultural rehabilitation project in Gaza and North Gaza, Action For Humanity plans to rehabilitate two agricultural wells.
The work aims to improve irrigation across approximately 30–40 dunums of farmland, supporting multiple small-scale farmers whose livelihoods have been disrupted.
Restoring wells and essential pumping equipment will help farmers access the water needed to cultivate their land. For households that depend on agriculture, this creates an opportunity to earn an income again.
The Difference a Working Pump Can Make
In Beit Lahia, farmer Saqr Abu Rabie depends on irrigation to cultivate a 20-dunum plot. Support to upgrade pumping equipment from a three-horsepower pump to a 7.5-horsepower pump is helping restore the water supply needed for cultivation.
For farmers like Saqr, functioning equipment is fundamental to keeping land productive. When irrigation fails, the consequences reach beyond one harvest: families lose earnings and have fewer resources to prepare for the next growing season.
Supporting Gaza’s Food Production
Restoring agriculture is an important part of Gaza’s recovery. Farmers need to be able to work their land and sell what they grow. Their produce can help supply local markets, while the income supports their own households.
Emergency food assistance remains essential. Alongside it, investment in irrigation can help preserve the means for communities to produce food themselves. By working with local farmers, Action For Humanity is supporting practical steps towards recovery that build on their knowledge and experience.
Help Farmers Grow Again
Gaza’s farmers have endured the destruction of land and livelihoods built over generations. Restoring access to water is one step towards helping them return to cultivation.
