What is Zakat Al-Fitr?

Zakat Al-Fitr is a form of charity given to the poor at the end of Ramadan. It is obligatory for every Muslim who has the means to do so and must be paid on behalf of each member of the household, including children.

Amount: Traditionally one Saa’ (about 2.5 to 3 kg) of staple food such as wheat, barley, dates, or rice. In today’s terms, this is estimated at $15 per person for 2026.

Per Person: Zakat Al-Fitr must be given for each individual in the household.

Timing: Zakat Al-Fitr should be paid before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, ensuring those in need can also join in the celebration.
